SUMMARY
In raising a number of methodological concerns, and underlining the lack of information concerning the intervention in question, this comment calls attention to the need for health professionals to be trained in motivational interviewing (MI) due to it being a highly complex clinical skill taking considerable time to learn and master which necessarily involves collaborative goal setting and shared decision-making. The authors underline how health professionals trained in MI also require ongoing training and supervision, particularly in managing and suppressing prior counseling habits.
